Letsatsi JV, a partnership between LK Tlou (Pty) Ltd and Sinohydro (Pty) Ltd, has reached a significant milestone in Eskom’s renewable-energy journey and South Africa’s broader Just Energy Transition following the official sod-turning ceremony for the 75MW Lethabo Solar PV Facility.
Held on 27 May 2026 at Eskom’s Lethabo Power Station in the Free State, the ceremony marked the commencement of construction on the utility-scale solar project, for which Letsatsi JV was awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract.
The Lethabo Solar PV Facility forms part of Eskom’s renewable-energy expansion programme aimed at strengthening South Africa’s energy security while supporting the transition toward a lower-carbon future.
The project represents an important step in integrating renewable-energy technology into Eskom’s existing generation fleet. Operating as a hybrid development alongside the current coal-fired power station infrastructure, the facility will contribute cleaner energy to the grid while leveraging existing operational and transmission infrastructure at Lethabo Power Station.
The development further demonstrates the growing role of strategic partnerships in advancing sustainable infrastructure and supporting South Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
